#OOTD - Boho Luxe Top

I recently received this top (courtesy of Parker), and the timing couldn’t have been better. During the busier times of the year, like the holidays, I’m always on the lookout for clothing that can transition well from day to night. For day, I love how this boho luxe style top with its ‘peasant’ inspired sleeves looks feminine and relaxed with more casual outfit pieces like jeans (and maybe shorts in the summer!). Switch to coated denim or leather pants for night, add black or silver stilettos and you easily have a cool, urban-chic look. An added bonus is that the boho luxe look is a trend for Spring 2015. So not only will this top help me transition into evening, but it'll also transition well into the next season!

shoes- similar here, here and here
clutch- Marc Jacobs
earrings- Ily Couture (on sale!)

double ring- Kendra Scott

Hard to tell in the photos, but there is a metallic thread that is incorporated into the print that makes the top a little more sparkly and dressy. Love it!

Travel: An Affordable and Stylish Hotel in NYC

Hope you’re all having a great holiday season! This is my favorite time of year, especially in New York City. Between the festive decorations, beautifully lit Christmas trees, pop-up gift markets, amazing store window displays and extra events, it’s an amazing time to be in and experience the city. If you don’t live nearby and wanted a more affordable hotel for your overnight stay in the city, there are options. One in particular is citizenM Hotel in Times Square. Have you heard of it or stayed there in another city? Relatively new to NYC, this hotel is a great option if you wanted an affordable hotel that is still stylish, but without all the frills that normally jack up the hotel fees.

I was first introduced to citizenM in October when I was invited to a cocktail mixology masterclass that was held at their rooftop ‘Cloud Bar’. After the event they gave us a tour of the hotel and I have to admit I was surprised by their unconventional yet very practical format. All the rooms are the same (no suites, etc.) with features such as a king-size bed, free wi-fi and free movies. The hotel is designed to feel like a home, so the lobby is set up like a living room with a “kitchen” where food is available 24 hours a day the way it may be in your own kitchen. Their mission: ‘to create affordable luxury for the people’. This hotel is not for everyone as the rooms are quite small and sparse for American expectations. But if your trip is short, you’re on a budget, or you’re just intrigued by the ‘living room’ concept; this is the perfect hotel for you. In the heart of the city, it is convenient, clean and provides the basic necessities for an overnight stay.

View from the rooftop bar:

Delicious bites at the Cocktail Mixology event:

Adri of Adri's Wrld learning to mix some new drinks and Rhea of Sew Stylish Rhea waiting with me to taste them! The drink on the right is an Irish Whiskey. This drink is hot (perfect for winter), incredibly yummy and my favorite of the night!!

Holiday Gift Guide - For the Kids

I'm always amazed by the variety of toy options out there, especially compared to when I was a kid. I can go to a toy store like FAO Schwarz in Manhattan and spend hours there even without my own kids with me! Guess I'm a kid at heart, because I have to admit I find the toy choices fascinating but also overwhelming! If you have any kids to shop for, see below (and click to purchase) for some of my favorite toy gifts for kids. Especially love the old school toys like the record player and 'Simon' memory game, the realistic snowballs, the landmark and archaeology light board kit, and the instant camera (might get this one for myself!).

Still not sure what to get the kid in your life? Check out the numerous options at Amazon. Even better, check out their Green Monday Deals and take advantage of some sales!

Love That Look, Now Get it!

A cold winter can be very frustrating from a fashion perspective. You put together a très chic look, throw on your warmer coat, and then it’s over. Your outfit is now your coat. Sure, you have cute shoes on or carry a gorgeous bag, but really, your outfit is mostly your coat. That is why I love the look shown above on Hanneli Mustaparta. A photographer, blogger, stylist and former model, Hanneli makes her coat the focal point of her look while the rest of the outfit is stylistically simple and chic, and complements (love the blue!) the coat's bright neon green shade. Also love that she's wearing neon in winter which is an unexpected and refreshing burst of color when the days are short and a bit more dreary.

Love the look too? Get a similar one here:
coat- J. Crew
cable knit sweater- Vince
pants- J. Crew
shoes- Timberland

And of course you need a bag. Colorful and fun, this one by Alexander McQueen brings together the colors of the outfit. It's smaller size makes it less overwhelming and more subtle.

Sorel & Lucky Magazine Event

Until last year, I got through several winters without having real winter boots. I had short booties from Aquatalia which just came up to my ankle that I wore when it was icy. For the occasional heavy snowstorm or messy slush, I wore my Hunter boots. Kind of slippery and cold, but I made it work! Then the crazy polar vortex arrived last winter, and what did I do? You guessed it, I still tried to get through the winter with my short booties and rain boots. Ridiculous. By the end of January with fashion week and some blizzards coming up, I was determined (and desperate) to get real boots. But not just any boots. I wanted to find ones that I'd be happy to wear, and that had enough style to work with my outfits. So of course I was drawn to Sorel boots. Rugged and chic, I was obsessed. Unfortunately, the ones I wanted were sold out, but this taught me to take my own advice. Get them at the beginning of the season! Fast forward to a couple of weeks ago when I was invited to the Sorel & Lucky Magazine event at Sorel's pop-up shop at 345 West 14th St. in NYC. An evening of shopping, drinks and music, it was a fun and perfect opportunity to try on Sorel's different boot styles and get prepared for the snow (in advance this time!).

The incredibly cute and chic (yes, you can be both!) Rachel Martino (in second photo above) of was there as a host of the event and to share her Lucky picks. She was wearing the MEDINA II™ (bootie with gold metal heel shown in the first pic of the collage above) which I loved. The metal heel is reason alone to buy those booties, but I'm not sure I'd be able to do too much walking with that heel...

Below are some of my other top Sorel picks:

from top L to R: 'Joan of Arctic' boot, 'Joan of Arctic' bootie, 'Tofino' boot, 'Conquest Carly' boot

Of course, you can always go 'old school' and get the classic Sorel shown in the first image. Love them all and looking forward to a toasty warm winter!
