Skagen: A Line of Bags to Love

Two words: functional chic.  I was recently introduced to a line of bags from Skagen, a contemporary Danish lifestyle brand.  Previously only familiar with Skagen's beautifully sleek and sophisticated line of watches, I was not surprised by my instant attraction to their new collection of bags.  The collection seems to represent everything the Skagen brand represents: high-quality, functionality and minimal detailing with a dose of style.
There are several bag styles in the collection, but my favorite is the Mikkeline shown above. Designed as a satchel (which tends to be my favorite bag style in general), I love that it also has an optional and removable shoulder strap.  But I think the best feature and look for the Mikkeline is that it can be carried as a clutch. With an arm through the handles and grasping the bag, its relaxed shape easily and effortlessly converts to a très chic oversize clutch!  Available in more neutral colors such as black, white and tan, the one pictured above in a stunning Bordeaux/Wine shade is my pick for Fall 2014.

Below are some other bag styles I'm loving from the new collection:
Ella (steel gray, stone)

Shown in some of Skagen's lighter and more neutral shades such as steel gray and stone, these bags are versatile and sophisticated.  The Ella can be carried in four different ways as a clutch, cross-body, shoulder bag as well as a tote. And the Dorte has a very convenient wristlet attachment.

With the opening of Skagen's first New York flagship store in Times Square next week, I look forward to seeing more of their products in person and experiencing more of the brand!

#OOTD - Gray, White and a Gorgeous Movado

Full Outfit- H&M top, JBrand Jeans, Jimmy Choo shoes, Movado watch

A monochromatic look done right is polished, chic and ridiculously simple. Sometimes you can tweak the colors a bit to add a little dimension to the look and avoid being too matchy-matchy, while still maintaining a monochromatic effect. One of my fave color pairings for an overall monochromatic look is gray(or silver) and white.  Especially in warm weather and on vacation, I love how these colors together can be very casual yet still sophisticated.

Below is a more detailed photo of the watch I'm wearing with this outfit. From the Movado Bold Collection, I love its sleek yet classic design and the subtle crystal embellishment. Gorgeous.

Today's Beauty Pick - Etude House Drawing Eye Brow

Love the Drawing Eye Brow pencil from Etude House, a Korean beauty brand. I've tried many brow pencils from various make up lines such as Trish McEvoy and Bobbi Brown, with MAC (see my post here) as my previous favorite, but this one, so far, is the best.

My sister introduced me to the Etude House brand after she bought me one from Korea earlier this summer. After my first use, I was hooked. The pigment glides on smoothly, is easily blendable, and applies lightly to gradually build up color to darker shades, if wanted. A unique and very practical feature of the pencil is its angle tip and flat edge which enables both a thick and thin line, but also the ability to go across the brow in one swipe.
Also, there's a convenient (and good quality) brush included on the other end. And for the price conscious (aren't we all?), its best feature may be its low price point. At only a few dollars (varies depending on exchange rate and retailer), it has much better value than the $20-30 department store brand pencils I've tried.

The only problem is that I haven't yet found a retail location in the U.S. that sells it. But you can buy it online at Amazon and sites like cosmetic-love.com. The shipping time may be longer, but for the price and quality...it's worth it!!

Paris Getaway - Part 2

close-up of breakfast basket of rolls and croissants
So this is how I started my day while I was in Paris. It was carb-loving heaven. Ok, I know the French don't typically have croissants every day, but hey, I was on vacation and it was so good.

We stayed at the Hotel Montalembert. Chic and intimate, the hotel was a luxurious home away from home in Saint Germain des Prés, our favorite area of Paris. The rooms are a bit (ok, very) small, but I think that the smaller space adds to its coziness and charm. And for shorter stays, it is perfect!

We arrived in Paris on Bastille Day, so this was our view of the fireworks from the hotel room that evening. Gorgeous. And a great welcome to Paris!

Since I was on vacation, I didn't take as many pics with my DSLR as much as I would have liked, so head on over to my instagram to see some more such as here, here and here. Thanks for visiting and...

Bonsoir!

Paris Getaway - Part 1

In July, my husband and I went on vacation to Paris (hence my lack of frequent posts...). My fourth time there, and I have to say that it never disappoints!

View from the hotel room in Saint Germain des Prés.

Love window shopping on Rue Jacob, especially since it is home to both a Isabel Marant Boutique and Ladureé.

An 'It' Bag for Fall 2014

For Fall 2014, there are many trends for bags. There's the furry bag, the clutch, the pop of color, the bucket bag, the whimsical, to name a few... So many, in fact, that if you can make just one purchase (or 2 :) ), it's better to stick to a bag that incorporates the season's more classic trends. The Alexander McQueen Heroine Shoulder Bag is exactly this type of bag. It represents this season's other popular bag trends such as structured, gray colored, smaller (as in, not over-sized), and textured leather. And the best part about it is that this bag will look great this season and forever.
