The Amazing Spider-Man2 Movie Premiere

The Amazing SpiderMan 2 photo collage of movie premiere and after-party in Manhattan
Last Thursday I attended The Amazing Spider-Man2 movie premiere at the Ziegfeld Theatre and after-party at Skylight at Moynihan Station in Manhattan. It was amazing! Walking in, I was looking forward to watching a talented cast of actors such as Andrew GarfieldEmma StoneJamie Foxx, and Sally Field. But since I'm not a diehard fan of action/superhero movies, I wasn't hoping for more than an entertaining night out. Well, I'm happy to say the movie blew me away. The story was compelling, with well-developed characters. I was on the edge of my seat from the very beginning of the movie to the very last scene. My favorite part of the movie was the heart-breaking romance between Peter (Andrew Garfield) and Gwen (Emma Stone).

Love That Look

For Spring, Summer and Resort, a light-colored, over-sized dress shirt (a popular trend now) worn with shorts or a skirt is an easy way to look and feel effortlessly chic. Last week, I posted (see here) about the statement-making potential of wearing white on white. Love this mostly all-white outfit for being simple yet on-trend and sophisticated. Especially love the minimal jewelry and classic nude(a color trend for Spring) colored shoes. Très chic!

Obsession of the Week - White Accessories

Sometimes, it's a lack of color that can make the boldest color statement. I'm obsessed with white on white for this Spring/Summer, especially with the accessories shown below. Worn with a white outfit or as a highlight white color, these white accessories are minimal, sleek, effortlessly cool and versatile.

How to Mix Prints

Mixing prints has recently been a popular trend on the runways, in fashion magazines/websites, and increasingly seen on the streets. But for most, this trend is either never attempted or results in a fashion don't. If the mixing prints look is something you've been intrigued by, yet haven't mustered the courage to put your outfit into action; read on for my mixing prints tips and guidelines.

Tips to master mixing prints:
1. Channel your inner child - Left to their own devices, children mix prints all the time. They choose prints that are aesthetically appealing to them, and try to wear them together for no other reason than they "love it all". Often, the results can be surprisingly good. I learned this firsthand by watching my seven year old daughter get dressed. The first time I noticed this, I saw her put 2 pieces together which triggered my "There is no way you're leaving the house in that!" response. After taking a step back and some insistence on her part, I had to admit that it looked pretty good. Who knew? Anyway, the trick is to focus on your intuitive reaction and keep the traditional fashion rules to the side.

2. Balance - Incorporate a solid, neutral color into your look to tie the prints together. The separate prints may already have this color in common. The image above is a great example of this.

3. Hair & Make-up - Keep it simple and sophisticated.

4. Confidence - Without this, what's the point?

Still scared? Forget mixing clothing prints, and mix in an accessory instead (see image below).

Wardrobe Essential: A Classic Belt

close-up of brownish gray belt
Depending on your style, you may or may not wear many belts. But regardless of your style, every wardrobe needs at least 1 or 2 classic belts. A classic belt has a neutral color, is simple in style, is not over-embellished, and is brand neutral (no obvious logo or no logo at all). It can be worn at any age and is timeless. An essential when you need to quickly pull together an outfit, or realize that your pants are slipping!

The belt above is one of my classic belts.  It's more of a grayish-brown (see a another image of it in this post), so it works well as an alternate to black. Definitely a piece worth the purchase.

#OOTD - A Dressed Down Tuxedo Blazer

outfit- Sandro jacket, Alexander Wang t-shirt, J Brand photo-ready jeans, Ivanka Trump heels
Not just for formal events or the holiday season, I love a tuxedo blazer dressed down with a casual outfit. It pulls a look together and adds instant chic with its higher quality(often heavier weight) fabric and subtle shine. The tuxedo blazer is my year-round wardrobe essential!

Obsessed... Jimmy Choo made a similar shoe to the one I'm wearing in this shade of pink, but sold out a while ago. I searched [obsessively] for months for a similar pair only to find ones in a pink too light, too dark, too orangey, or just uncomfortable. Finally found these by Ivanka Trump, and I love them!

6 Favorite Fringe Shoes

collage of shoes with fringe- Valentino, B Brian Atwood, Schutz, Golden Goose, Gucci, Ash
As much as I love fringe on bags (see my recent post here), I love it even more on shoes! Above are my 6 favorite fringe shoes of the season. (From top L to R: Valentino, B Brian Atwood, Schutz, Golden Goose, Gucci, Ash)

The fringe on these shoes take them beyond the boho luxe look to add an element of sophisticated drama to an outfit. Coordinate the shoes with more minimal and/or neutral outfit pieces to highlight the fringe detail while maintaining a sleek silhouette.

A Denim Must-Have

J Brand Kassidy Jean in Grey
J Brand Kassidy Jean in Grey

If you don't already own J Brand's Photo Ready Kassidy Denim, then I recommend you go try them on... now. Regardless of the season, this is one pant (on sale here!that should be in your wardrobe, either now or after you have saved up for them! They are soooo flattering (and comfortable). Made with a special [Photo Ready] denim fabric, these pants were designed to lift and contour to result in a slimming effect. Now I'm not sure about the technology of this fabric, but these pants really do create a slimming effect. Also, with this particular shade of grey that is not too dark and not too light, the pants add another neutral alternative beyond your basic blue denim.

I bought these a couple of weeks ago and want to wear them every day!

My favorite design element of these pants are the zippers at the ankles. An edgy/cool detail, these zippers also make getting dressed easier, since the pants have a super skinny silhouette!
