Shoe Obsessed with René Caovilla

As a follow-up to yesterday's post, this is one type of shoe that I would (and really want to) wear with a cropped pant. Talk about a statement making ankle!

Unfortunately, this gorgeous shoe by René Caovilla would wipe out my shoe budget... But a girl can dream!

#OOTD in L.A.

Outdoor photo wearing Sandro jacket, Frame Denim Jeans, Balenciaga bag
This Spring and into the Fall there's an emphasis, or rather a 'showing off' of the ankle. Accordingly, pants are being cuffed, cropped, or re-styled(culottes, anyone?). And can I tell you that I'm obsessed with this trend?! Of course as a shoe lover, I love any trend that highlights and showcases the shoes of an outfit. Also, showing off the ankle can add some femininity and subtle sexiness to a more masculine looking pant, especially with sleek pumps or sandals. One of my favorite ways of wearing a cropped, ankle-revealing pant is a rolled-up, slouchy boyfriend jean like these by Frame Denim. The lighter color is perfect for warmer weather and any distressing/fading is subtle enough so that these pants can be worn in more situations.

These photos were taken last week when I was in warm and sunny Los Angeles (sigh!). Because I was doing a lot of walking, I wore a flatter and wider heel. Otherwise, I'd wear this outfit with stiletto pumps or a more delicate sandal.

It was snowing when I started writing this post... I have to say that I'm still in complete denial that it is cold winter weather here in New York. Miss you L.A.!!

Love That Look

Absolutely love this look on Joan Smalls during Milan Fashion Week. Not many women can wear a studded bustier and fluffy fur jacket and look effortlessly chic, but for Joan Smalls and this look, it works! Love how the top and jacket is contrasted with and complemented by faded boyfriend jeans, casual "undone" hair, and a simple [clutch] bag.

Sport Chic + Jordan Taylor Resort Wear

OOTD close-up of black mesh Jordan Taylor top with black blazer
With all this cold, snowy weather in New York, I'm ready to move on. So let's talk about Spring...

For the past several seasons, many designers have been inspired by traditional athletic wear pieces (for example, sweatshirts, mesh tops, track pants, etc.). They recreate these pieces with luxe or higher end fabrics and detail, and rework the silhouettes to be more fashion forward/flattering. For Spring 2014, this sporty chic trend is even stronger and more popular across the brands. One of my favorite sport looks is a mesh or open-knit top. Love it for its layering options, its versatility, and its old-school athletic appeal.

Below are 4 Spring 2014 looks from 4 different designers (Elizabeth and James, Rag & Bone, Tom Ford, Gucci) which show the different ways designers re-interpreted the classic mesh top. From dressed up to conservative to a night out to casual, this style is as versatile as it is on-trend.

Jordan Taylor, Inc., a resort wear company based in NYC, recently gave me this wonderful black mesh, beach cover-up. I'm taking it on my vacation this week and definitely will be wearing it in the summer; but with the sport chic trend for this season and likely for at least a few more seasons coming up, I think I'll be wearing it off the beach a little more than I'll be wearing it on the beach!

Outfit details:

blazer- 5/48 (similar here)
bag- Saint Laurent (without studs here)
shoes- Pour La Victoire (similar here)

NYFW - Meskita Fall/Winter 2014

Look 34 from the Fall Winter 2014 Meskita show
The show notes for the Meskita FW'14 fashion show describes it as "a brand that encompasses the essence of all women: strong, glamourous, sexy, and confident".  And the collection (designed by Alessandra Meskita), which debuted on Feb 9th during New York Fashion Week (NYFW), clearly upheld this description! Inspired by the 1950's and the Year of the Horse, the looks were a smart blend of feminine glamour and sportswear chic. Neoprene was a popular fabric of the collection and gave the looks a strong/protective element as well as making them appear more sleek and a bit edgy. In addition, many of the silhouettes were fitted and body conscious with an emphasis on the waist, often with a belt or corset. My favorite colors of the collection were winter white, mauve, peach and midnight blue.

Along with the clothes, I love how the models were styled with dip-dyed, sleek pony tails (horse reference), and leather finger gloves.

I especially loved the bomber jacket theme in the looks. So cool and chic!

What I Bought...

Comme Des Garcons wallet/coin purse in Sky Blue

Sometimes, it's a trip to the men's department that helps me find exactly what I'm looking for. I needed a small wallet that could easily fit into my clutch or small purse/crossbody. If I found one the right size, I didn't like the way it looked, and vice versa. I happened to visit MrPorter.com, a men's retail/style website, and found this wallet/coin purse. It's small enough to fit into my smallest clutch, yet large enough to easily hold coins, bills, and credit cards. With the signature Comme des Garçons embossing, beautiful sky blue color and high quality leather, it was exactly what I wanted!

The beautiful packaging, to make it even more special, ...

The Monuments Men Movie Premiere

Last night, I had the pleasure of attending the premiere of The Monuments Men, a Sony Pictures film directed by and starring George Clooney. (See here for more info on the movie) It is a great film, an important story, and has a fantastic all-star cast. To be released on February 7th, I highly recommend watching and supporting it!

Above are some of my instagram pics from the movie premiere at the Ziegfeld Theatre and after-party at the Metropolitan Club in Manhattan.

Image captions from top L to R (note: all but 1st 2 pics taken from Metropolitan Club):

4. Centerpiece
5. With French actor/Academy Award winner and cast member, Jean Dujardin!

In all, a wonderful movie and a fabulous night!!

Pre-Fall 2014: Some More Looks to Love

Chloe
In anticipation of New York Fashion Week(starts on Feb 6th!) where designers' collections for Fall/Winter '14 will be presented, I've been revisiting the looks from Pre-Fall '14 as I look forward to what may come down the runway in a couple of days. [In case you didn't know, Pre-Fall is the transitional collection that will take you from the Spring/Summer into Fall/Winter.] Generally, the Pre-Fall looks for 2014 were about practicality and comfort while maintaining a strong emphasis on femininity. There were slouchy suits, fluid fabrics or cuts, lots of lace detail and ruffles or pleats. Coats as well as sweaters had a dominant presence in this season which gave the collections a cozy and protective spirit. In essence, the looks of Pre-Fall '14 are clothes that I will want and need to wear when the Fall approaches.

In addition to all the looks from Nº21(see my post here), the images above and below are my most favorite looks from the Pre-Fall season.
