Inspiration for Holiday: Venexiana – New York Fashion Week SS’15

With the perfect moderate-to-crisp temperatures stereotypical of Fall in New York and full-swing into October, my thoughts are on the holidays. I know I may be jumping the gun since we haven’t even had Halloween yet, but this is when I start to get excited for all the extra social events and parties that typically occur from November until New Year’s. And with the parties, come the clothes. What to wear… Last month during NYFW, I attended Venexiana’s Spring/Summer ’15 fashion show. It was a stunning collection of ‘make-an-entrance’ gowns that inspired me to get really dressed up (at least once) for the holidays.
The designer, Kati Stern, is known for her use of gorgeous fabrics, expert tailoring, and rock-and-roll edgy style. And this collection did not disappoint! With fabrics such as matte jersey, silk taffeta and chiffon; sequins and Preciosa crystals(most often on a collar or strap) decorated and accessorized the dresses without being over the top. Each look came down the runway with a fluidity on the models that is a testament to the exquisite tailoring and impressive drape of the fabrics. The colors of the dresses included black and softer ‘spring’ shades such as aqua, pink, soft yellow and coral. One of my favorite features of the collection was the metallic trend which showed up in the looks as metallic thread, lamé or sequins.
The photo at top and the ones below are my favorite looks from the show. Hopefully, you’ll be inspired too!

Wow! These really are some amazing designs. I'll be keeping Kati Stern on my radar, and I agree there is a rock-n-roll edge to her designs, which I think takes a lot of talent to pull off with formal attire…Great post! Kris / VPI

Completely agree that it takes a lot of talent to infuse a rock-n-roll edge to traditionally formal attire. And she still manages to make it look so elegant! Thanks for your comment, Kris!
