Sleek, sophisticated, and chic are 3 words I associate with Proenza Schouler's PS11 bags. The PS11 is minimal and structured in style, and the hardware is clean in design. Although there are many variations of the PS11(shoulder, clutch, tote, etc.), one of my favorites at the moment is their mirrored leather wristlet clutch shown below.
Metallics are a hot trend this season and into the Fall, so I definitely see this piece working with my wardrobe...now! :)
Prints are a great way to incorporate an on-trend look into your wardrobe this season.
Ordinarily, I'm not much of a print person, but there are definitely some, like the Sandro Rivage dress below, for which I would make an exception! Somewhat sporty (which I love) with its graphic white piping detail on its short sleeves, this Sandro dress has a bold print that is also brilliantly subtle with its particular blend and pattern of colors.
For a daytime look, add your denim jacket(with sleeves rolled up!) of choice and accessories. For evening, lose the jacket and/or wear a pump or sandal.
Although sunglasses are worn year round, there's something about Ray-Ban aviators that I particularly associate with the warmer weather of Spring/Summer. So in the hopes of the cold of winter to be soon gone, I'm wearing my aviators...and loving them!
Just bought the "Square Aviators" shown below. If you have a small nose bridge and/or high cheekbones, try them! Not only do you get a better fit, but they won't dig into your cheeks when you smile... :)
Warm weather leather is a huge trend this Spring so pair it with the black/white contrast trend and peplum, and you've got a hot look for the season! As an added bonus, the leather will take you seamlessly into the Fall.
Below is my 2nd versatile Spring look suggestion which would be great for date-night, cocktails, meetup with the girls, etc. etc. Just change the accessories and you're dressed up, dressed down, more edgy or more chic!
First, it was the color. There is something so cool and clean about the tangerine hue of this Alexander McQueen Heroine Bag. It's also a great on trend sorbet shade for Spring.
Then, it was its north/south shape. Lately, east/west bags (like the Chloe Alice bag) have been very popular. Although I still like those type of bags, a north/south orientation now and then seems fresh in comparison.
Finally, it was the name. Heroine. I think I must be in some sort of female empowerment phase since I'm currently obsessed with Alicia Keys' song, This Girl is on Fire, and my Warrior tee shown in my last post is now my favorite tee.... So I also love this bag for the positive connection I have to the name.
For every season and/or trend cycle, there are some pieces(aside from denim which goes with everything!) in my closet that I use repeatedly for many different looks. These pieces are an integral part of my wardrobe. Right now, 2 of those pieces(although there are many more) are the statement necklace by J Crew and leather moto jacket by Mango shown below. Worn separately or together, love how both can be worn dressed up or dressed down, are great with any color outfit choice, and are on trend for this season and definitely into the fall. But the best thing about these 2 pieces are their relatively lower price points which makes them definitely worth the purchase! Having said that, I still think every wardrobe should have a few high-quality investment pieces(including pieces you may have had to save up for); however, great style and quality is not always synonymous with expensive and if you find those pieces at lower price points...get them!
Fall '13 Fashion Weeks in New York, London, Milan and Paris have come and gone. Similar to daylight savings time which occurred overnight in the US, we can now move forward into Spring!
It's a bittersweet moment for me. Bitter, because I miss the craziness and fashioned obsessed (more than usual) days of fashion week. Sweet, because I can focus on the coming season and know that there is something to look forward to in the Fall.
So now that it's time to Spring forward, here are my 3 favorite(and easily wearable) trends of the Spring season:
1. Black/White Contrast¹
Céline, Oscar de la Renta, Stella McCartney
2. Menswear Influence¹
Tess Giberson, Christian Dior, Saint Laurent
3. Sorbet Colored Accessories
Oscar de la Renta², Christian Dior¹, Loeffler Randall²
Check back later in the week for some of my Spring outfit looks!
It's the tail end of winter and my face is dull, sallow and pale. Attractive, right? So this week I'm obsessed with bronzer to effortlessly add some life back to a face that, unfortunately, has not really seen the sun much in the last few months.
I'm particularly in love with Bobbi Brown's Bronzing Powder in Medium(2) for my skin tone. It has a nice, natural shade and does not have a "muddy" or orange hue that I often see in other bronzers.
If you need a brush, Trish McEvoy brushes are my absolute favorite! Not only are they great quality, but they're really pretty... :)
A few weeks ago at a blogger conference during NYFW, I had the wonderful opportunity to meet accessory designer, Emily Kammeyer. Fortunate, because she invited me to an event last night to showcase her new 18K Tassle Bracelet Collection at the gorgeous Amore Pacific Beauty Gallery & Spa in SoHo. It was a night of beauty indulgences, food, drink, socializing and, of course, a chance to see her hand-made in NYC pieces in person!
I absolutely fell in love with her wrap bracelets, especially the luxe effect of the 18K gold color. They have an interesting style mix of boho-chic/vintage and the leather wrap adds that little dose of edgy cool that I loooove.
Would love to wear her fringe necklaces with a white tee, leather moto jacket and skinnies!
The beautiful and talented designer herself!!
An instagram pic of what I bought: 2 wrap bracelets from her 18K collection. Have one in neon pink on order!
As a mascara user novice, I started experimenting with different mascara brands a few weeks ago (see post here). Due to the ridiculously vast selection of mascara brands and types, I tried to focus on the ones that were personally recommended to me either by friends or a make-up artist. In my last mascara post I tried Trish McEvoy, Blinc, Lancome, and Benefit. Benefit they're Real was my overall favorite as far as wearability, application, and making lashes noticeably longer and thicker.
In the past couple of weeks, I've been alternating use of the 5 mascaras shown below.
Here are my results:
Dior Diorshow- Pros: lashes are longer and thicker, no clumping if done carefully, easy to remove, brush is oversize- great if you have long/thick lashes
Cons: Because lashes are more noticeable, mistakes and a heavy hand stand out!; a little smudgy(they recommend primer, but who wants to add another step!), brush is oversize- great if you have long/thick lashes; brush is oversize- bad for short lashes!
Rimmel Scandaleyes - Pros: incredible volume and length, no clumping if done carefully, easy to remove, no smudge, easy to layer, brush is oversize- great if you have long/thick lashes, low price
Cons: Because lashes are more noticeable, mistakes and a heavy hand stand out!; brush is oversize- bad for short lashes!
Sephora Full Action - Pros: good overall volume and length, no clumping, easy to remove, no smudge, easy to layer
Cons: none unless you want a more dramatic look
bareMinerals Flawless Definition(thanks to bareMinerals!) - Pros: lashes are longer and thicker, no clumping, easy to remove, no smudge, easy to layer, brush is like a comb so great for shorter lashes and precise application
Chanel Inimitable Intense - Pros: lashes are longer and thicker, no clumping, easy to remove, no smudge, easy to layer, brush is like a comb so great for shorter lashes and precise application
The upshot of my highly unscientific research is that my favorite mascaras are bareMinerals, Chanel, and Benefit(from prior post). A huge differentiating factor was the brush. Below I've lined up the brushes from this post. It's hard to tell in the pic, but the 2(bareMinerals and Chanel) on the right have comb-like bristles which really help to get in close (great for short lashes!) for precise application and reducing clumping. Benefit had the comb-like bristles as well.
