Obsession of the Week - Shoes as Jewelry

When I pick out shoes, they normally fall into 3 categories.  1. Functional: Do I need to be able to walk around all day in them?  Do I need some extra height? etc.   2. Aesthetics: Will they work well with my wardrobe and complement my outfit choices? 3. Decorative: This is the fun category and the one that I'm particularly obsessed with now.  These shoes are picked just for being pretty...at least to me...  They are worn the way you might put on a piece of jewelry.  Of course, I must be able to walk in them, but I'd be just as happy to display them on my bookshelf or in my closet!

Love how the shoes below are delicate in style and have an ankle strap that looks like a bracelet (ok, maybe not the B. Atwood shoes, but the fringe is gorgeous on the shoe!).  These all definitely get my "Decorative" designation.

Designer Spotlight - Belstaff

Belstaff for womenswear just keeps getting better and better...

The collection for Fall 2013 oozed femininity(in a street-chic way, of course!) and luxury while still maintaining a reference to their roots in motosports.  There were flounce skirts, soft sweaters, and edgy-chic knee-high boots contrasted with rugged yet sleek outerwear including, of course, a biker jacket and the use of the oil-slick black waxed cotton for which they are famous.  I especially loved their added injection of luxury with fur trim, leather and high shine detail, and metallic embellishments (see last pic below).  Under the creative direction of Martin Cooper since 2011, Belstaff for Fall 2013 is, by far, my favorite of their collections!

Obsession of the Week - The Graphic Tee

Love the graphic tee for the way it adds fun and whimsy to a more tailored look such as under a blazer. Also, looks great under one of my favorite wardrobe pieces...the moto jacket!

OOTD & A Peplum Top

Peplum tops have been a hot trend since last Spring (see my post here), but, unfortunately, I haven't found many that work for me.  I'm small on top relative to my height, so they tend to be too short!  The top by Mango in the pic below, on the other hand, is the perfect length (and also at a great price!).  Made of bouclĂ© knit fabric, the top is feminine and soft with a hint of the edgy with its faux leather trim at the collar.

Add a statement necklace and your favorite skinnies, and you've got a chic and easy everyday look!

Outfit:
Top: Mango
Necklace: J Crew (on sale!)
Bracelet: Cartier "Love"

NYFW Fall '13 - Lela Rose

Inspired by the book of Brothers Grimm Fairy Tales, the Lela Rose Fall '13 collection was complex in texture, patterns, and embellishments in the way a dark and enchanted fairy tale would be.  There were deep, rich colors such as golden, vivid fuschia, and midnight as well as intricate jewel embroidery, beading, feather trim and lace to add whimsy and fantasy.

Obsession of the Week - A Red/Pink Jacket

Happy Valentine's Day!

Lately, I've been obsessed with blazers and jackets, so in honor of Valentine's Day I chose some that I love in the traditional colors of Valentine's.

NYFW Fall/Winter '13 - Son Jung Wan

Elegant, tailored, and refined with a touch of opulence is how I would describe Son Jung Wan's collection for F/W '13. Her color story included a strong theme of soft neutrals such as pink, nude, light gray and camel.  As the show progressed, these neutrals were beautifully contrasted with the more vibrant hues of teal, dark violet, blue, green, turquoise and burgundy, to name a few.  Fur (or lamb) as trim or a stand-alone piece added drama and luxury to otherwise understated looks.

A gorgeous collection!  See for yourself in this video...

NYFW Fall/Winter '13 - Noon by Noor

Inspired by the transient culture of their home, Bahrain, Noon by Noor designers, Shaikah Noor Rashid Al Khalifa & Shaikah Haya Mohammed Al Khalifa, created a collection for a woman who travels the world.  The looks were ladylike yet sophisticated in standout colors such as deep red, opulent purple, soft grey, burgundy and black.  Versatile.  Wearable.

NYFW Fall/Winter '13 - Candela

Candela's FW '13  Presentation was romantic and feminine with components such as ruffles, lace, chiffon and victorian inspired looks.  But there was also an interesting blend of nostalgic coziness from rustic details (riding boots, fringe) and knits (hats and sweaters).

Some of my favorite pics from Gabriela Perezutti's FW '13 Presentation for Candela:

Love the elaborate yet delicate hand beaded detail of the skirts below:

NYFW Fall '13 - BCBG continued...

Love how the casual and soft silhouettes of BCBG's looks are juxtaposed with edgy thigh boots and leather.

My favorite looks from the Fall '13 collection:

Close-up shot of the thigh boot which is really a hybrid of a pump and boot.  Love it and love the metal heel!!

Come to think of it, my closet could use a black fur flap clutch!  Love!

NYFW Fall '13 - BCBG

The BCBG Fall '13 collection was decidedly sportswear with just the right blend of bohemian, urban chic.  This season BCBGMAXAZRIA was "inspired by the beautiful history inlaid within the architecture of Istanbul and the eclectic style of the Gypsies of southern Europe, contrasted by the artwork of contemporary artist Phil Frost".
